Notifying LP Alerts to Slack Channel using Webhooks

Slack, a popular team collaboration tool, enables real-time communication and is widely used across IT, security, and operations teams. By integrating Logpoint alerts with Slack, you can ensure that critical security or operational incidents are immediately brought to the attention of the right teams in a channel where they can collaborate and take action.

This integration leverages webhooks, a powerful mechanism that allows external systems to send real-time data to a specific URL, such as a Slack channel. When an alert is triggered within Logpoint, it can be automatically sent to a Slack channel via a webhook, ensuring your team is notified instantly.

Why Integrate LP Alerts with Slack?

  1. Real-Time Collaboration: Slack is a central hub for communication, and integrating Logpoint alerts allows for immediate visibility and collaboration when an incident occurs.

  2. Streamlined Incident Response: By receiving alerts in Slack, teams can quickly discuss and coordinate a response to the issue, improving incident resolution times.

  3. Proactive Monitoring: With automated notifications, teams can address problems before they escalate, helping to reduce downtime and potential security breaches.

  4. Centralized Notification System: Integrating alerts into Slack consolidates various system notifications, reducing alert fatigue and ensuring that important messages stand out.

How the Integration Works

The integration between Logpoint and Slack is relatively simple and can be accomplished in a few steps. It leverages Slack Incoming Webhooks, which allow external services to post messages to a Slack channel in real-time.

Step-by-Step Integration

Creating a Slack Webhook Integration

The first step is to set up an incoming webhook in Slack, which will act as the endpoint for receiving alerts from Logpoint. Here’s how you can create one:

  • Go to the Slack API website and select Create New App. Choose From Scratch, name your app, and select your workspace. (Skip if you Already have an Application created.)

  • If you have a existing Slack Channel, Select the targeted app, Under Features, click on Incoming Webhooks and enable them.

  • Once enabled, click Add New Webhook to Workspace, choose a channel where you want the alerts to appear, and click Allow. Once Webhook is added, You’ll be provided with a unique Webhook URL that will be used to send the alerts from Logpoint to Slack.

Configure Logpoint to Send Alerts

Once you have the Slack webhook URL, the next step is to configure Logpoint to send alerts to Slack when specific events or thresholds are met. This typically involves:

  • Configure a alert(Skip if you have one). If you have an alert, Go to Settings → Knowledge Base → Alerts Rules and Select the Alert that you want to configure notifications for.

  • Click on the Bell icon on the right side and select HTTP Notification.

    • Enable check for Notify via HTTP/S

    • Select Notification Trigger as you Like. If you need automatic Push of Alerts to Webhook, Select Automatic.

    • Protocol as HTTPS

    • Base URL would be the Webhook URL of the App you created in Slack.

    • Request Type : POST

    • Keep Query String field Empty for now.

    • Headers: None

    • Body of the Incident Data must be in valid json format as Webhook only supports JSON data.

    • (Optional) You can specify the Threshold for Notification as you like.

Once Alert is triggered, HTTP Notification would push the Alert data to Slack Channel as shown below:
